I hope you dance!
Mar 12, 2020So, it was a Wednesday night and we went to a local brewery to watch one of our friend's son sing. The weather was perfect, the tacos were delicious and Jacks did a fantastic job entertaining us for 2 hours!
When we left, it was fairly early, so some of us decided to go to a small pub and hang out. It was an Irish pub, which was so fun because this is the week of St. Patrick's Day, so they had live folk music.
This band was so entertaining and completely chilled out. They played from their seats at a table. I'm not sure why, but that made it even more fun and relaxed.
It was a great night and on our way home, Neil needed gas, so we stopped at the famous Buc ee's gas station. If you aren't from Texas, you may not know what Buc ee's is, and if you don't, do yourself a giant favor and put a visit to Buc ee's on your road trip bucket list. It is like no other gas station experience out there.
It's like a general store met up with Cabela's AND Cracker Barrel and decided to sell gasoline. There are 212 gas pumps! They sell hunting gear, home decor, are known for having the cleanest bathrooms and you must get some of their beaver nuggets! We live in the country and just happen to live 15 minutes from a new Buc ee's location. We hit the jackpot!
So we pull into the gas station and of course, I have to go in. I'm telling ya'll it's an experience. Anyway, Neil and I split up. I was at the kitchen counter and Neil was headed to go try on Costa ball caps. Over the loudspeaker, they were playing music and Neon Moon by Brooks & Dunn came on. Ya'll, that is my favorite country song and Neil's first pick at a karaoke bar.
The moment that song came on, I told the sweet boy that was taking my order "OH MY GOSH WHERE IS MY HUSBAND???" I frantically began looking for Neil and when I stood on my tippy toes to try and scour the joint, there he was.... frantically looking for ME!
We ran to each other and immediately starting 2-stepping (If you aren't from the south, that's country dancin'). Yes! Right in the middle of the floor at Buc ee's, at 11 PM, we danced. I was smiling from ear to ear, and my heart was melting.
Everyone in the store was watching, but all I saw was Neil's smile. My hand in his was all that mattered at that moment. We were in a gas station dancing and our hearts were full.
When we finished, we got high 5's from other patrons and as I took my sandwich from the sweet boy behind the counter he smiled & said: "ya'll are cool".
Never miss the small opportunities to enjoy life. It's those little moments that add up to an amazing ride. Neil had his heart attack 6 years ago and it changed us forever. Post heart attack, we see life through very different lenses. We will never forget it, and now we will always be grateful for the small moments in life.
So if you hear that song that means so much to you, I hope you dance. No matter where you are, always choose to dance. Open your heart to new things & see life through small moments. That is where you will find BIG joy.
