So many parts to the coconut!
Apr 08, 2020These days, it seems as though coconuts and all of their beautiful parts are in so many kitchens and recipes. So what is all the hype anyway? Well today, I am going to just explain what all the components and give you some nutrition facts. I think they are a wonderful food and everyone should be eating and drinking as much coconut as possible!
- Coconut Water - It comes from a very young coconut (the green ones). It's very high in electrolytes and great for athletes
- Coconut Oil - As the coconut ages, it becomes thicker and begins to solidify. When you take the "meat" of the coconut and press it, that's coconut oil. It's great for cooking with heat
- White Coconut - This is the center of the mature coconut. It starts out green, and as it turns brown, the center turns white (that's the meat of the fruit)
- Coconut Milk - When you blend the meat with water, you get the milk. When you see "light" or "fat-free" coconut milk, they are taking all the good fat out of the coconut and replacing it with lots of starches (chemicals)
Here are the BENEFITS of eating/drinking coconut:
- They are rich in copper and iron (helping form red blood cells)
- They are high in manganese; which helps with bone health
- They are an antioxidant; meaning they fight cancer and disease
That's a wrap, honey! Enjoy some coconut in countless ways!
- Smoothies
- Trail Mix
- On top of chia pudding
- On top of yogurt
- By itself
Hooray for coconut!
