Grocery Shopping
Mar 04, 2020There is one thing, without a doubt, that we ALL have in common. We all have to eat.
Can I get an amen!?!
Here are some best practices I have put into place over the past 5 years, during my journey to healthy eating and healing. I hope you find these helpful and are able to implement some of them into your life.
- Never be rushed at the grocery store. Put your grocery store trips on the calendar. If you can make time to get your hair and nails done or play that golf game and watch that basketball game, you can certainly make time to buy your fuel (ADA food).
- Plan your grocery list. Search Pinterest, Google, your cookbooks, Instagram and so on and make your list ahead of time.
- Take your own reusable grocery bags. It's 2020 friends. It's time. The seafood that you eat is swimming in plastic.
- Go to the produce section first. Buy as much as you can from this section. My goal is always to have at least 70% of my basket filled with fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds.
- Try to avoid dairy. Dairy makes us all inflamed.
- Do not be afraid of taking an extra 30 minutes to visit 2 stores. There are some things you can't get at your common grocery store so don't hesitate to make a visit to holistic grocery stores like Whole Foods and Sprouts.
- If you are putting food in your basket that has a food label, you MUST read the ingredients. I'm not talking about the nutrition facts. I am talking about the ingredient list. And if you don't recognize the first 5 ingredients, put that "food" back on the shelf.
- If it is made by Nabisco, General Mills, Yoplait, or Hershey, PUT IT BACK.
- Do not go to the store hungry.
